Kgosi ke mang...

Kgosi... is the Setswana word for a chief in the Batswana tribe.
Kgosi... is also the second part of my very long surname.

Mosimanekgosi, directly translated as BoyKing.

My home affairs name is actually Atlegang, but you can call me Kgosi.

Welcome to my Bookshelf.

This platform was born out of my love for reading. Flipping through pages and getting lost in the story, is slowly becoming a dying art. I read somewhere that Booktok has had a positive impact in the number of books sold. Bookstagram, Booktok inspired my endeavours to launch this platform. In this corner of the internet, you can shop for your next read.

African literature, is the niche for this indie bookstore. I strive to list books that have been written by African authors. Books that tell stories about Africa and her people. Think along the lines of "I do not come to you by chance", "the secet lives of Baba Segi's wives", "Kintu" & "An elegy for easterly" ...

“Bury me in the ocean, with my ancestors that jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage.” - Black Panther

I also enjoy reading books from the diaspora, I remember rushing to EB Hyde Park after work to purchase the last copy of Queen Sugar they had in Johannesburg. I remember reading Sula in high school and concluding that Toni Morrison, is a hard writer to read. I also read Wahala lately & I am not sure.

I am the type to listen to London Grammar when I start driving, ask Siri to play Kanye west when I am halfway there. When I stop driving, its highly likely Amapiano will be blasting through the windows. My reading taste is just as diverse, I don't like overhyped books but The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo, deserves more flowers. I really enjoy reading works from Paulo Coelho, Mohsin Hamid and Leila Aboulela.

My ultimate wish for this bookshop is for it to be a collaborative space, where thoughts and opinions are shared. Where we can debate if Daisy and Tom Buchanan were really careless people...

Over coffee or gin, but like my masters focus, the future is digital. I look forward to engaging with you over Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter or Youtube. Which ever platform you prefer, lets connect.

Thank you for visting my SMME.

I hope you find your next read from Thee Kgosi Bookshelf
